We learned on 1st October 2024 of the death of Chevalier Sean (John) McGree, KHS who died peacefully at Tipperary University Hospital.
Sean was born in Kilkenny and emigrated to Australia where he worked as a Secondary School teacher in Perth Austalia until retirement. Then he went north to Broome where he taught children in the outback over the airways.
Confrère Sean was admitted into the Order in Perth in 1990 and transferred to the Lieutenancy of Ireland on his return home to Cahir, County Tipperary where he resided until his untimely death.
Sean is remembered fondly for his love of sports, in particular hurling and for a time he was medic and physiotherapist for St Mary’s GAA club in Athenry.
Confrère Sean was a devout Christian, volunteer for Foroige and a generous benefactor to the “living stones” in the Holy Land. Our condolences to his wife Angela, son Simon, brother Fr Tom and extended family.
