August 20th, St Stephen’s Day, is celebrated throughout Hungary in commemoration of the foundation of the Hungarian state.

The religious celebrations are centred around one of the most magnificent historic buildings of Budapest: Saint Stephen’s Basilica.

Members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem take prominent place in attendance at Holy Mass and in the procession following: when the Holy Dexter, the relic of the right hand of the canonised ruler is carried around in the centre of the capital city.

This year, representatives of the Lieutenancy of Poland and Lieutenancy of Ireland participated in this prestigious ceremony.
