Brian Murphy-O’Connor, KC*HS, admitted 1987.

Confrère Brian who died on 18th April 2022, resided in Waterfall, Cork and was a renowned architect with a successful practice Boyd Barrett Murphy-O’Connor in Cork, which following his retirement transferred to his son James.
Brian was admitted as a member of the Order in 1987, was promoted successively to the rank of Grand Officer, KC*HS, and was a recipient of the Pilgrim Shell of Jerusalem having participated in numerous Order Pilgrimages to the Holy Land.
Brian was happily married to Beatrys for over 51 years, having first met in 1969 whilst she was a young au-pair visiting from the Netherlands. The couple were blessed with four children Julie, James, Mimi, Christopher and later eight grandchildren.
Brian was pre-deceased by his late parents Kerry and Mary, his cousin Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, his brother Prof. Jerome Murphy-O’Connor O.P and is survived by his sister Sheila (Daly), brother Archdeacon Kerry Murphy-O’Connor, his devoted wife Beatrys, children and family.
Brian will be remembered for his many achievements as an architect, business consultant, mentor, painter, sour dough bread baker and a keen angler who mastered the art of smoking the fish that he caught. However, he will be remembered mostly for his smile, kindness, generosity, Christian practice and role as loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
At the time of his death in the Bon Secours Hospital, Brian had a decade rosary ring on his finger which was very important to him, a sign of his true Catholic faith.
