Saturday 11th May 2024 the Lieutenancy of Ireland held its Northern Mass in St Malachy’s Church, Armagh.
Holy Mass was celebrated by The Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, His Grace Eamon Martin KC*HS which was offered for Peace in the Middle East
The prime celebrant was assisted by Vy Rev Gerard McCormack, KHS, and postulant Vy Rev Padraig Shelley, Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin.
Archbishop Martin’s homily text follows:
“We pray for and urge restraint on all sides and plea for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages.
We also pray for a just and heartfelt rapid response to humanitarian suffering and for the protection of innocent people who are caught up in a war not of their making.
May the Holy Spirit touch the hearts of adversaries and bless their work in seeking a peaceful resolution where “nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Is. 2:4).
As people of faith, may we never become desensitised to the plight of the most vulnerable: the young, the elderly, the hungry, and displaced, but reach out in compassion, support, and assistance.
Trusting in the strength of prayer, we seek the intercession of Our Lady Queen of Palestine, the dispenser of grace, that Jesus, Prince of Peace, and Son of Eternal Justice will shine the light of peace across all lines of division and restore God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.”
Following Mass, the Lieutenant and members attended Armagh City Hotel for the official launch and distribution of the Jerusalem Cross Annual 2023-2024.
