Card. Fernando FiloniE. Fernando Cardinal Filoni was born on 15 April 1946 in Manduria, Italy.

He was ordained a priest on 3 July 1970 and holds doctorates in philosophy and in canon law. He also holds a diploma in public opinion sciences and techniques, specializing in journalism. While in Rome, he served as assistant pastor and taught in local high schools.

In 1981, he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See and served in Sri Lanka, Iran and Brazil. In 1992, he was sent to the Philippines, but with residence in Hong Kong, where the Holy See had opened a Mission of Study to follow the situation of the church in China in a moment of social and religious changes.

On 17 January 2001, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Iraq and in Jordan. He received episcopal ordination on 19 March 2001. To convey the Church’s closeness to the people during the war in Iraq, he stayed at his post until March 2006 when he was transferred to the Philippines.

On 9 June 2007 he was appointed Substitute of the Secretariat of State. On 10 May 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.  Created and proclaimed Cardinal by Benedict XVI in the consistory of 18 February 2012. He chose as his episcopal motto Lumen Gentium Christus. "Christ, Light of the nations".

 In 2008, Archbishop Filoni was awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. The Holy Father appointed him Grand Master of the Order on 8 December, 2019.

Mons. Pierbattista PIZZABALLA, OFM  was born in Cologno al Serio (Bergamo) on 21 April 1965, son of Pietro and Maria Maddalena Tadini.

He received the Franciscan religious habit on September 5, 1984, in Ferrara (Santo Spirito) and spent the year of novitiate at the Franciscan Shrine of La Verna (Arezzo -Italy). He made his Solemn Profession on October 10, 1989, in the Church of St. Anthony in Bologna. On September 15, 1990, he was ordained priest in the cathedral church of Bologna, After spending one year in Rome, he was transferred to the Holy Land, in Jerusalem, in October 1990.

From July 2, 1999, he formally entered in service to the Custody of the Holy Land. Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa was Custos of the Holy Land for twelve years (05.05.2004 – 20.05.2016).

Archbishop Pizzaballa speaks Italian, Modern Hebrew and English.

Since 2008 he is a Consultor in the Commission for relations with Judaism of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Unity among Christians. The Episcopal Ordination of Archbishop Pizzaballa took place in September 2016, in Bergamo, Italy.

On May 31, 2017, Archbishop Pizzaballa was appointed member of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches by the Holy Father Francis,
